Today I am thankful…. by TaraD

This week I was asked if as a “Scorpio” I am a private person, my reply was, “maybe, sometimes”. The person asking me laughed and said well even your reply is somewhat private.  I was unaware how private I actually am until I started to think about it! 🙂 It also made me realise that there is an awful lot that goes on (in all of our lives) that many others are not even aware of.  So for the day that is in it, I want to make public what I am extremely thankful for….

  • I am thankful for my family. Life would not be the same without them. Our two boys have brought us the most amazing happiness and I will always feel extremely blessed that they made it into our lives and this world.
  • I am thankful for my mum who puts up with all of our chaos even though I am now 35 LOL.
  • I am thankful for my friends. The one’s who probably don’t even realise how much I love and respect them, but I know and that’s all that matters 🙂
  • Hugs, but they have to be more than 20 seconds long! There is scientific research to show the health benefits.
  • Our (work in progress) home. It is full of love, provides warmth, shelter and a place for the kids to play. As we face into the cold weather (and as homelessness is a topic that fires us up as a family), I am thankful that we are able to have these “basics”.
  • The smell of coffee brewing, it is a simple thing but it makes me feel good!
  • My career. I work hard and long unsociable hours, but it is at something that I enjoy. I am lucky to have the opportunity to do that. I couldn’t be in a 9 to 5, I would go completely insane!!!
  • Being able to work with my husband (even though sometimes I want to strangle him LOL!). But we make a great team and we keep each other on our toes with our competitive natures!
  • My health and the wake up calls it gives me when I need to slow down! (I do listen (most of the time!) I promise!).
  • Random acts of kindness. They are the best!
  • A heartfelt thank you note. If someone takes the time to write, it really brightens my day!
  • I am thankful for LOVE, for without it what would there be? I wouldn’t have a family, a career, or a story to tell! 🙂

What are you thankful for today?

Kerry Wedding Show 2017 by TaraD

Recently I had the good fortune of attending the Kerry Wedding Show 2017, even though my bridal shopping days are over!! I had a great day out helping couples on the day, talking them through our photography packages here at Tara Donoghue Photography. I was very impressed by the layout of the stalls and of the effort all the suppliers put into making them stand out.  I found myself trying to plan a party for the future just to avail of the brilliant ideas and eat the delicious cakes that were displayed! 🙂

What I really loved about this fair was the open area that it was held in, the INEC proved to be a great spacious area where there was even enough room to hold a fashion show!! Norma O Donoghue put together a great collection of bridal wear and together with the music and lighting, it really was a show stopper!

This year there were 81 stalls at the wedding show. Upstairs there were performances from wedding singers and bands which added an extra element of fun to the day! I really enjoyed  the variety of stalls, and the unique ideas they had, the prosecco cart was mouth watering!!

There were a variety of suppliers offering everything you could need to make your wedding day special! From hotels to photographers and everything you could want in between it was a day for every wedding couple to enjoy!

To top off the day Aine Clifford, a bride to be, won the fabulous prize we organised worth over €2,500 which the following suppliers were part of:

Interview with Tie The Knot Weddings by TaraD

Today we have an interview with Tie The Knot Weddings-  wedding flower and event specialist.

Tie the knot wedding is a family run company for over 30 years and we are a mother/daughter team who specialise in wedding flowers and décor. Mary who is a real creative brain started selling a few plants and little arrangements many years back and over the years trained and grew the business to being one of Munster’s leading wedding suppliers. Danielle qualified in event management and started out working for Irelands largest event promoter, working with some of the worlds biggest music artists and also a stint as personal ASSISTANT TO Hollywood actress Cate Blanchett. She made the move closer to home to help run the business and now works closely with all the couples from their first phone call/mail until the morning of the big day!

Meeting new people and having the chats! It’s so lovely being part of a couples journey to their big day and it’s so rewarding when it all comes together and they are happy with everything.

We love the soft, wild bohemian style of bouquet that is loose and unstructured. It’s so popular at the moment, that carefree, relaxed look. In terms of flowers there are too many to choose, it’s like picking your favourite child! 😉 We love the Lilac flower and of course the Peony and David Austin Rose, so exquisite. We are a huge fan of lots of different seasonal and locally grown foliage. Grey/Silver foliage is going to be really big this year.

Thankfully we don’t see too many. I suppose the main thing really would be the couples taking on too much and planning to do it all themselves, particularly the week of the wedding. The day before the wedding should be as stress free as possible. You will need that time to do your last few jobs, enjoy getting your nails/ tan done and to have a few drinks and fun! Sometimes I have seen brides trying to finish off making a cake or trying to do some of the flowers themselves and they end up missing out. My advice would be hire the professional if you at all can, delegate and take the pressure off. X

As soon as you know who you want to work with get in touch and secure the date. Good suppliers are booked up fast. There is loads of time to pick out what you are going to have but the main thing is the date, especially if its summer or xmas, or other peak times. In terms of flowers, there is so much choice. We offer a lot of hired out options so it helps to reduce the cost while still getting the wow effect!

Also there is a price for everything. When shopping for quotes take into account the business reputation, years in business, previous client’s feedback, their portfolio and their actual skill. If something is very cheap there is usually a reason why. But the main thing would be to enjoy it all! Enjoy the planning as much as you can as the day goes so quickly and it’s the build up that really is  a huge part x

Thanks so much to Danielle from Tie the Knot Weddings for a great interview!

Kerry Wedding Show 2015 by TaraD

IMG_0567So our year is well and truly driving at full speed ahead after Sunday’s Kerry Wedding Show. With over 70 exhibitors it was the perfect place for any couple to book their wedding suppliers and grab fantastic deals!

This year I was honoured to be sponsoring a free wedding photography package for one lucky couple in association with Radio Kerry and Brides of Kerry Wedding Magazine.

Hundred’s of entrants from all over the county and from as far away as Cork and Limerick 😉 sent in their entries via email and Facebook.

The idea was to send in a photograph of yourself and spouse and your wedding date. The winner was then chosen by a panel of judges at the show. Thankfully I didn’t have that difficult task as I wanted everyone to win!!!

The winning couple chosen were Karen O’Mahony and her partner Anthony Lane who are getting married this December. I believe Karen was so excited that she cried and to me that means the world. If we could all take time out of our lives to give someone a gift that makes them so happy they cry, the world would be a better place! 🙂

So when Karen eventually gets over the shock, we will be busy planning her day with her looking forward to photographing a very special wedding. When the wedding and honeymoon is over, the excitement still doesn’t end, Karen and Anthony also get a fantastic double page feature of their wedding in Brides of Kerry Magazine! So I can understand why Karen was crying, it really is an amazing prize to win 🙂 🙂 🙂

For any of you brides reading this, Brides of Kerry is a must have! It is full of tons of tips, ideas, real wedding inspiration and generally everything you need to help plan your day. So if you weren’t at the wedding fair and got your hands on a free copy, I would recommend you get out to the shops and grab one before they are all sold out!

So before I get back to today’s editing, I would just like to say CONGRATS again to Karen and Anthony, WE CAN’T WAIT TO SHOOT YOUR WEDDING 🙂

Also a massive THANK YOU to Melanie O’Sullivan from Radio Kerry. Melanie is amazing, she works incredibly hard behind the scenes and every year manages to organise a fantastic event which is a must for all brides and grooms! We are already planning and looking forward to next year’s Kerry Wedding Show!

April Drew from Brides of Kerry, it was a pleasure working with you and thank you for calming my nerves before our radio interview (I will get over that fear this year lol!).

To my husband Dave, you survived your first wedding fair and thank you so much I couldn’t have done it without you!!! xxx

Finally to all of you who stopped by to look at our work and for a chat, it was an absolute pleasure meeting you and to those of you who booked on the day… let the excitement begin as we start our journey together!!! 🙂
