International Chocolate Day by TaraD

Do you know anybody that doesn’t like chocolate?

We don’t, we’ve never met anyone who doesn’t like that sweet, smooth little piece of heaven.

Today is International Chocolate Day, and yes, that is a thing! We seem to celebrate so many other things, so why not celebrate something we all love so much?

Let’s admit it, we all find excuses to buy, eat of gift chocolates, so why not actually eat them on the day we’re celebrating it?

For those of you who like fun facts, chocolate has been around since 1750BC, as evidence found in Mexico.
Chocolate originates with the cocoa tree and it takes roughly 400 cocoa beans to make 1 pound of chocolate and 2-
4 days to make a chocolate bar. No wonder it’s considered a luxury.
Lindt, Godiva, Ferrero are all names that most people recognise globally. But who needs those when we have our own amazing chocolates right here in our backyard?

Ireland and Germany rate as the third biggest consumers of chocolate in the world! And it’s no wonder when we have our own brands of delicious chocolate being produced all over the country.

Many of them are hand-made and unique…and what can beat that as a gift? This is the gift that can’t ever go wrong.
If you have a special occasion coming up, like your wedding, or you’re celebrating Valentine’s Day, an anniversary,
birthdays, Mother’s Day, here is a short list of some of Ireland’s best chocolates:

Butlers Chocolates and Cafes https://www.butlerschocolates.com/en

Cadbury Ireland https://www.cadbury.ie/
Skelligs Chocolate Factory in Co. Kerry – https://skelligschocolate.com/

Hand made chocolates and an amazing day trip for the family as well to visit the factory and watch the chocolates being made.
Lily O’Brien personalised chocolates and great options for wedding gifts too. https://lilyobriens.ie

https://trufflefairy.ie/ – hand made chocolates. Requires a bit of travelling to Kilkenny but so worth the trip if you’re
into award winning chocolates!
https://chocolategarden.ie/ – another choice for award winning hand-made chocolates, straight out of Co. Carlow.
They accept school tours too!
Regardless of which one you choose, you’ll make a great choice!

Yum yum!

The new normal….. by TaraD

Thank you to Rima for writing this article for us…….

“It’s been over 2 months. I stopped counting the days once I got to week two and couldn’t figure out if it was Tuesday or Wednesday. My daughters harks to “When coronovirus is finished” so often, that now, its like a new month, era, a vision of when everything will be ok again and “normal”.

But after this “pause” of sorts, do we WANT to goback to “normal?”. Are our new personas able to fit into the circumstances of “before?” I’m not talking about fitting into wedding dresses here! I’m sure so many of us have learned lessons, about ourselves and others and life in general, that “normal” no longer exists. For many, working from home has opened the door for flexible work hours, helped them to develop self-discipline and many other advantages. As a mother, wife, teacher, I have seen many of these, though sometimes we have to look carefully for them.

Although there are some terrifying aspects to the coronavirus crisis, we have to accept, hasnt it been wonderful to see the whole world stay inside, keep themselves and others safe and find themselves? To witness the world healing, animals reclaiming land? To pause a little our frenetic lifestyles, to stop and smell the flowers, to make that banana bread. To stop, to breathe, to read the hungry caterpillar for the 1 millionth time without rushing your kids into the bath? It hasn’t been easy to juggle all these things under one roof, but it has been beautiful to learn to see each other as all the different parts of ourselves. To know that we CAN.

My children have seen me “teach” over zoom calls. I’ve heard my husband with his posh voice making work calls, I’ve seen my daughters become best friends.

There is always something positive. Having to postpone a celebration is so hard. But we develop resilience, patience and love never stops. It grows and grows. So when the day comes, think not about how and when it should have been, but how it is. Love so much bigger, better and bolder than ever before. How hugs are longer, how flowers smell sweeter than ever before.

My mum is always right, (as most mums are) and she always says, the best is yet to come…….

All things wedding albums… by TaraD

Happy new year! We are in full flow this January hitting the ground running!

Does anyone else feel that Christmas was a distant memory even though we are only a few days into the new year? Well we do but we are incredibly excited about all the adventures and events lined up for 2020 so we hope its a great one for you too!

Diana has kicked off the blog writing for us, in between designing some beautiful albums. So here is some info from her on that!

“Designing an album for a special event in someone’s life, like a wedding, is an important part of a photographer’s job.   Our job is not done after the day is over and we all go home.  After someone ‘s special day, and after the long editing process , we get to have some more fun!  The first part of designing an album is to choose the top 100 photos (in the case of a wedding) that we feel represent the major parts of the day.  They should represent special moments like the bride & groom getting ready before church, bride arriving at church, the ceremony, family portraits after the ceremony and so on…

Then we review what we know about the couple, from working with them in person as well as from the photos. For example, what are some of their hobbies?  What are their favourite colours? Are they part of a team?  We do this so we can better personalise their album with something more relevant for them like their favourite colour or poem or song or special moment from the wedding.

While the majority of couples choose a plain black / white background for their wedding album, giving them the option of colours, themes or graphics can really make their album and photos stand out.  Every couple should consider this when working with their photographer on their album.  While we create this initial version of the album, we work closely with the couple on revising it until they are happy with the final product. This album will exist for generations to come and will tell your story, it should be as personal to you and as beautiful as possible.”

Want to know more about our albums? Or would you like us to design a beautiful album for you? Then get in touch today to see more samples!

Until next time,

Happy January!

2018 the year of growth! by TaraD

It is Sunday the 11th of Feb and I have sat down many a time to catch up on blog posts and update our site but it hasn’t happened yet! Today we should be working in adare but the weather has forced us to reschedule. So in between family fun I am sneaking off to do a quick post! 🙂

2018 has had us hitting the ground running! It has been such a manic year so far and the word that seems to sum it up for me is “Growth”.

Growth as a business:

Tara Donoghue photography is almost at our quota for 2019 and we are already booking for 2020! Thank you so much to all of you who want to collaborate with us on your amazing day!

Growth of our skillset and experience:

We were found by a fabulous L.A Director Phillip Briggs who invited us to be still and production photographers for the movie he was shooting here in Kerry. Phillip is a master of light and to work with him was an amazing honour.

For him to say that our work was “incredible” is even more surreal! This has been a really exciting project for us feeding our creativity in a completely different way and it has already begun opening lots of exciting doors! When you are casually discussing the Oscars, Cannes film festival and Hollywood actors for the next movie it all becomes quite unbelievable and so exciting to be on board!

Growth as a family:

Dáithí arrived in 2017 but our family has well and truly settled into life as a family of four!

He has fitted into the madness that is our life and with his laid back personality, he just sits and laughs at us all which is probably the best approach! 🙂

So as I continue to plan and work on our different areas of growth, I remind myself that none of it is possible without those around us who enable us to grow.

Our clients who trust in us, those who repeatedly recommend us, the friends and family who support us.

None of it would be possible without you all, so thank you!

On that note I can smell my Sunday dinner so I am off!

Have a fantastic week!

Tara x
