I am challenge…. by TaraD

Yesterday I began a 90 day “I am” challenge with one of my coaches Christa Molter. The idea is to take a daily photograph of me saying an “I am” statement to myself in the mirror and to post that image on my insta stories to hold me accountable.

For Day one I chose the affirmation of “I am able” and today I have two ideas and they are “I am motivated and I am focused”.

If I forget to do a day I start back at day one. The purpose of this is to develop our self image with daily positivity and see the power of repetition and affirmations. If you constantly tell yourself that you can’t do something, chances are you will convince your subconscious mind that is true and therefore find it incredibly difficult to do the said task. Whereas the opposite is also true. It takes 30 days to form a habit so by the end of 90 days I should see and feel a massive difference!

If any of you would like to join me, I would love that so feel free to message!

With that in mind it has inspired a photography project and we would love you to join us with our  “I am…..” Photography challenge. The idea behind this is to document what is going on for all of us right now. To acknowledge our feelings, be they happy or frustrated! To simply share as a community showing support to one and other as we are all feeling similar emotions. Sometimes it helps to know that others are feeling the same too!

To join the challenge capture a photo on any device inspired by the “I am ….” statement. Some examples are as I mentioned above, I am able, or I am motivated, I am focused, I can do this. Or it could simply be I am tired! 🙂 It can be anything at all but it should inspire the photograph that you have captured. Then tag us in a picture taken with the hashtag #TDPiamchallenge so we can all inspire each other and keep each other motivated to do it. Again the reason for sharing this is that we support each other and also lets make it fun! Lets encourage children to come up with “I am” statements. It is also a great way to find out how they are feeling without directly asking them.

We will also share some tips and tricks throughout the challenge to help develop your photography skills and another bonus is the visual diary that you are creating of yourself, your family and your environment during this unprecedented time.

So I hope you will join us….. I am willing, I am able, I am going to do this! Will you? 🙂

Destination Weddings by TaraD

Whenever you get the opportunity to combine your favourite things the answer should always be,

“YES LETS DO IT!!!”

So when we were asked if we would like to shoot a wedding in Portugal this summer, we checked the diary and blocked off the dates on one computer while booking flights on another!

Accommodation, plans, logistics, timetables, (THE LANGUAGE BARRIER!) etc. would all be worked out later, our bags were being packed and we were off!

Bride & Groom in front of Batalha Monastery

Why the excitement? Well for us as Photographers we always love to work on something different.

Bride & Groom, Wedding Portugal

We have shot quite a few destination weddings over the years, often hopping on a flight from Kerry to Stanstead and travelling to as faraway places as Sydney!

Destination Wedding Sydney, Australia.

If you haven’t met us yet, you won’t know that we love meeting people from all over the world. In the next month alone we have at least 6 couples from outside Ireland who have asked us to shoot their day. We both feel that we were born to travel and if we can’t physically go then the next best thing is to meet people from other countries and learn from them.

Destination Wedding, South Farm, Hertfordshire, England.

Destination Wedding, Clock Barn, Tufton Warren, England

Destination wedding, Oban, Scotland

We are also incredibly competitive (towards each other) and we love to create art that will forever hang in someone’s home reminding them of a happy moment/ day/ time in their lives…. and did I mention that we love to travel?

So for our current and past couples who live abroad and often say oh,

“I would love if you could shoot my sister’s/brother’s/friends wedding but it is in another country”….

Our answer is always, “we have passports!”

So whenever the opportunity arises that someone finds us and asks, “Is it a possibility that you would travel for our wedding?” the answer will 99% of the time be YES!

Will you be part of our next adventure?……..

Wedding shoes…. by TaraD

So I have an obsession, I realised many years ago that I get excited about wedding shoes LOL.

For my own wedding I chose Irregular choice, for their quirkiness combined with the practical reasons of comfort and height! I am 5″7 so I don’t tend to wear heels. I didn’t want to feel like I was towering over everyone in 4 inch heels so I went for a kitten heel with a platform built inside the shoe so they were incredibly comfortable! They are also very reasonably priced, especially when it comes to shoes and putting the words “bridal” or “wedding” in front of anything!

So while I don’t regret my choice for a second I do still drool at Jimmy Choo bridal shoes. I really do love them and love photographing them!

I would never be able to wear them as I would definitely end up breaking an ankle or something! But maybe one day I will treat myself and make sure to walk very carefully LOL.

What are your dream wedding shoes????

Shoot for the stars! by TaraD

Well the summer is absolutely flying by and it almost feels like it was January just yesterday!

Wedding season is manic (just the way we like it!). But last night we took a little break and headed off to Kerry International Dark Sky Reserve that we are blessed to have so nearby.

Did you know that it is  “the only GOLD TIER Reserve in the Northern Hemisphere” according to Kerrydarksky.com. That is an incredible accolade for Co. Kerry and Ireland!

So we headed off to meet a fab bunch of photographers (who for some reason keep signing up to do more of our courses!). They are glutons for punishment LOL. The brief last night was that they were interested in capturing the beauty of the night sky.

We took a gamble on the weather (which paid off) and with flasks and sugary snacks at the ready, we passed the time waiting for “some stars”.

Close to midnight the clouds parted and we were watching an AMAZING show of shooting stars and the whole sky was simply breathtaking. It was a night I honestly won’t forget and I can’t wait to go back again and camp out for the night (like some of our students decided to do!). I think Dave is already planning the next trip!

So if you fancy joining us, get in touch or take a look at our training site www.taraanddavephotography.com to find out about any of our courses.

The website is still a work in progress so if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to reach out to us, we would be happy to help!

I don’t want my photographs to look posed… by TaraD

Lifestyle Photography Sessions Explained

“I don’t want my photos to look posed”, is a phrase we hear all the time. Enter lifestyle photography.

A lifestyle photography session documents real life milestones, moments and events and gives you images that are anything but posed. Lifestyle photography photos tell your story just as it is at that precise moment and are perfect for any genre of photography. Action driven details bring your images to life over and over again.

So what are some of the situations where lifestyle photography can be used?

Kids Photography

Lifestyle photography

Lifestyle photography is the ideal way to capture the beauty and authenticity of childhood

Make sure your children are well rested and that they’re comfortable in both their clothing and their surroundings.

Patience is key during this type of session but this is when the magic happens. Bringing along a favorite snack, toy or book won’t hurt either.

Believe it or not, the most successful photos often happen when we let the kids lead the session. It’s all about making it a magical and spirited time where there is lots to take in. Sitting back and capturing those honest moments will ensure beautiful images that you’ll love for decades.

Newborn Photography

Lifestyle photography naturally lends itself to newborn photo sessions. True to life, crib and bassinet shots taken through the slats make for stunning photos. Then there are of course the shots with mom, dad, brothers, sisters and even the family pet. Moments that may seem mundane now such as bathing, feeding or even changing a diaper, from a distance of course, make for creative shots that you’ll love for years to come. Playing with and rocking your baby are also moments that you definitely won’t regret taking the time to capture as it gives you fond memories to look back on in the months to come as your baby grows and their routine change.

Family Photography

There is nothing quite like having the family together. The laughing, games, meals and memories are truly something to treasure. A lifestyle photography session is the perfect excuse to get your family together and capture different generations spending quality time with each other. Why not shoot a family lunch or time spent playing outside in the garden? Capturing moments between siblings or grandparents and grandchildren are photos you can treasure for years to come.
