Family films by TaraD

As someone who is used to shooting weddings, a day full of beautiful things and beautiful beaming people, this last year has been a great challenge to stop and view what I shoot differently.

I am used to making everything look “perfect”, often ignoring the “mess” and creating the beautiful finished look.

Without weddings I have chosen to look at every day things in a fresh way that is equally as beautiful.

These are often the things that we take for granted. If the last year has taught us anything, it should be not to take anything for granted again.
Planting strawberries is a simple task but now I have recorded it in such a way, that it is a beautiful memory for me and my husband and I know it will also be a beautiful memory for our boys to relive, maybe with their children.

Family films were born out of the idea to stop living for tomorrow and wanting this all “to be over”. Instead let’s start living for today.

Let’s find the beautiful in today because when we start to look, it is everywhere.

Take a look….

If you would like me to capture your family story please get in touch and I can book you in for this summer.

Past clients can avail of a fantastic offer for 2021.

Dates can be rescheduled if needed.

We will be working in line with all government guidelines.

Lets create beautiful memories for the future.

International Chocolate Day by TaraD

Do you know anybody that doesn’t like chocolate?

We don’t, we’ve never met anyone who doesn’t like that sweet, smooth little piece of heaven.

Today is International Chocolate Day, and yes, that is a thing! We seem to celebrate so many other things, so why not celebrate something we all love so much?

Let’s admit it, we all find excuses to buy, eat of gift chocolates, so why not actually eat them on the day we’re celebrating it?

For those of you who like fun facts, chocolate has been around since 1750BC, as evidence found in Mexico.
Chocolate originates with the cocoa tree and it takes roughly 400 cocoa beans to make 1 pound of chocolate and 2-
4 days to make a chocolate bar. No wonder it’s considered a luxury.
Lindt, Godiva, Ferrero are all names that most people recognise globally. But who needs those when we have our own amazing chocolates right here in our backyard?

Ireland and Germany rate as the third biggest consumers of chocolate in the world! And it’s no wonder when we have our own brands of delicious chocolate being produced all over the country.

Many of them are hand-made and unique…and what can beat that as a gift? This is the gift that can’t ever go wrong.
If you have a special occasion coming up, like your wedding, or you’re celebrating Valentine’s Day, an anniversary,
birthdays, Mother’s Day, here is a short list of some of Ireland’s best chocolates:

Butlers Chocolates and Cafes https://www.butlerschocolates.com/en

Cadbury Ireland https://www.cadbury.ie/
Skelligs Chocolate Factory in Co. Kerry – https://skelligschocolate.com/

Hand made chocolates and an amazing day trip for the family as well to visit the factory and watch the chocolates being made.
Lily O’Brien personalised chocolates and great options for wedding gifts too. https://lilyobriens.ie

https://trufflefairy.ie/ – hand made chocolates. Requires a bit of travelling to Kilkenny but so worth the trip if you’re
into award winning chocolates!
https://chocolategarden.ie/ – another choice for award winning hand-made chocolates, straight out of Co. Carlow.
They accept school tours too!
Regardless of which one you choose, you’ll make a great choice!

Yum yum!

Making the most of this extra time…. by TaraD

How are you all doing? It is such a strange time right now as we aren’t meeting in person and chatting all things wedding or otherwise. Are any of you missing the interaction?

Are you using zoom and various apps to keep you sane?

Do any of you have a routine that you are sticking to? Or trying to stick to?

We are for the simple fact of helping to know what day of the week we are on and also giving us things to look forward to.

For example movie nights on a Sunday with the kids is a big one. Monday to Friday is school work and Saturday is a play day.

Monday is always an office afternoon for me, so I am trying to look at what I can improve. I think it is a really good time to re evaluate business and what works incredibly well and what can be better!

I have already established some ways I can serve our clients more efficiently so I will be implementing those changes immediately.

I am also using the time to brainstorm new ideas, to bring something fresh into our company. To learn new skills in this extra time. To study and of course take advantage of this extra family time we have been given!

Too often I have spoken to parents who say “they grow up too fast” “it went so quickly” and so on and they are completely right.

I went back to work straight away when I was building the business when Cailean was born and I remember the guilt I felt shooting a wedding on his first birthday.

I was more confident second time around and took time off with Daithi and we all enjoyed a work free Christmas together for his first Christmas and it was such a gift. We realised we had been pouring every second into our company.

So I am using this time to look inwards. What can I change? What can I do better? What will help others more?

I would love to hear what’s helping you guys through…. x

Irish Wedding Awards, Creative Photographer of the Year! by TaraD

Irish Wedding Awards, Creative Photographer of the Year
Winners of Creative Photographer of the Year 2020.

Wow what an incredible way to start the year!
We decided to go to Dublin last Monday as we were finalists in the category of:
“Creative Photographer of the Year” for the Irish Wedding awards.
We have never been nominated or attended these national awards before.

As it was on a Monday night in January and we knew a few other suppliers attending, one being a lovely past couple of ours Karen and Anthony (Karen is a florist and was also a finalist in the awards, https://www.facebook.com/flowersbykarenlimerick/ ).
We thought it would be a great excuse to go away for an evening and catch up with them and some other fantastic people, including Sharon from Ballyseede Castle!
Little did we know it would turn into a night of massive celebrations as WE WON!!!!
So there are not too many pictures taken that night by ourselves as we were too busy celebrating! But there are hundreds taken by the fabulous Nina Val and you can see those on the Irish Wedding Awards page. Thank you Nina for capturing the moments for all of us suppliers.

It is an AMAZING boost for us in January as we have been making huge plans for 2020 and we are starting it in the best possible way! I must say a huge thank you, for those of you who nominated us (that was a surprise in itself!) and for the judges who felt we deserved such an accolade. We are extremely grateful!

Just after we hit post on this blog another email pinged through to say we are one of the IRISH TOP 100 WEDDING SUPPLIERS! Wahoooo! 🙂

Post Valentine’s Day! by TaraD

“Small things done with great love will change the world.”

On valentines day my friend Lorenzo, (you may remember him on the news/late late show/ social media etc visited my son’s school to tell them about his night out at sea. He told his amazing story of survival and explained the power of the sea and how we should respect it. The children asked how he survived, “Did he see any sharks? Did he get scared? What did he eat? How could he see in the dark? How did he stay alive?” and the real question from one of the juniors was “Did he get bored?”. It was an afternoon of lessons and laughter. We were reminded that we are all small beings in this huge universe, like he was a tiny speck that night out at sea. Lorenzo talked about never giving up no matter how tough things may seem. Even in the most difficult of situations there is always hope and if that was the only lesson the children took home, that is an incredibly powerful one!

After such an eventful afternoon, I enjoyed some time with my boys “doing nothing” which is a huge challenge for me as there are always jobs to be done! I guess those are the perks of running a business! In that downtime, my eldest had a real heart to heart chat with me, while my youngest began picking daises for me!

My mum offered to babysit, which meant Dave and myself could go out and enjoy dinner and have an actual uninterrupted conversation! Any parents reading this will totally get where I am coming from here!!!! 🙂

So my reason for sharing this is, that sometimes we need to slow down.

We need to stop and be aware of the amazing things that we are often too busy to notice. We are more aware of acts of love and kindness on specific days like Valentines due to the radio, tv, magazines etc bombarding everyone with “Valentines stories and ideas”, and some feel obliged to buy the cards, flowers, chocolates etc.

But why can’t we apply the principal and show those acts of kindness all year round?

Be kind, share your story, listen to others and make someone smile, it doesn’t cost a thing! 🙂

“Happy Valentines” LOL….

2018 the year of growth! by TaraD

It is Sunday the 11th of Feb and I have sat down many a time to catch up on blog posts and update our site but it hasn’t happened yet! Today we should be working in adare but the weather has forced us to reschedule. So in between family fun I am sneaking off to do a quick post! 🙂

2018 has had us hitting the ground running! It has been such a manic year so far and the word that seems to sum it up for me is “Growth”.

Growth as a business:

Tara Donoghue photography is almost at our quota for 2019 and we are already booking for 2020! Thank you so much to all of you who want to collaborate with us on your amazing day!

Growth of our skillset and experience:

We were found by a fabulous L.A Director Phillip Briggs who invited us to be still and production photographers for the movie he was shooting here in Kerry. Phillip is a master of light and to work with him was an amazing honour.

For him to say that our work was “incredible” is even more surreal! This has been a really exciting project for us feeding our creativity in a completely different way and it has already begun opening lots of exciting doors! When you are casually discussing the Oscars, Cannes film festival and Hollywood actors for the next movie it all becomes quite unbelievable and so exciting to be on board!

Growth as a family:

Dáithí arrived in 2017 but our family has well and truly settled into life as a family of four!

He has fitted into the madness that is our life and with his laid back personality, he just sits and laughs at us all which is probably the best approach! 🙂

So as I continue to plan and work on our different areas of growth, I remind myself that none of it is possible without those around us who enable us to grow.

Our clients who trust in us, those who repeatedly recommend us, the friends and family who support us.

None of it would be possible without you all, so thank you!

On that note I can smell my Sunday dinner so I am off!

Have a fantastic week!

Tara x
