Unique Photo Session Ideas You’ll Love by TaraD

There’s nothing quite like capturing memories with your loved ones. Are you someone who enjoys taking beautiful pictures of you and your family?  Then you are probably always on the lookout for inspiration for your next photo session. Below are some unique photo ideas that you’ll love.

  • Old photographs. Are you a fan of the photos that your grandparents or even great grandparents have taken? Why not replicate them yourself? All it takes is a bit of editing and you can achieve the same look and feel.

  • First and last day of school. For the first day of school, get some fun pictures of your child getting ready. You can then do the same on the day that they graduate from high school. Then you can create an amazing “before and after” picture. You can even choose to add on college photos later.

  • Generational photosPhotos are one of those items that are passed down through generations. So why not create one that future family members can treasure. Take a photo with your daughter, mom and grandma to show the generations of women in your family.

  • Pregnancy pictures.  There are many fun ways to show your progress through pregnancy. Documenting it with photos is the perfect way to capture this time in your life. Years from now you’ll be able to take your child through your journey before you got to meet them and share those special moments with them.

  • Pet portraits.  If your pet is a member of your family then capturing memories with them is just as important. There are so many great ways to take some amazing photos whether it’s outside at a park or in the comfort of your own home.

  • Save the date. Getting married in the near future? Taking a quirky couple photo where your wedding date is displayed is a lovely way to invite people to your wedding. You can do anything from writing the date on the bottom of your shoes to using chalkboards or balloons to display the date.

  • Gender reveal.  Why not make finding out the gender of your baby a fun. Surprise everyone by turning it into a fun photo that you can send around. Some cute ideas include releasing pink or blue balloons out of a box or you could incorporate a cute color frame to hold around your belly.

Winners of “WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER 2018”. by TaraD

Tara & Dave Wedding Photographers

Where did January & February go to?

This year is just flying by and what a great start it has been!

In our last blog post you would see that this year we were found by LA director Phillip Briggs who asked us to come and work with him while he was filming in Kerry. We were blown away to have even been asked. It was such an incredible honour and we can’t wait to share the imagery with you once the film has hit Cannes (later this year!) and the Oscars! I know its incredible and so exciting!

On the 25th Feb we went to the Ballyroe Heights Hotel. We joined with our friends in the wedding industry for a fantastic night out at the Brides of Kerry awards. We wanted to let our hair down and hit the dance floor as our “quiet season” still hasn’t started yet, and to be honest I don’t think it will happen at this stage until next year.

Dave & I enjoyed dinner and entertainment before sitting back to watch the awards. Many of our friends won awards for their contribution to the wedding industry. My voice was beginning to give way from all the cheering!

We seemed to have sat at a lucky table with Jacks restaurant winning, Annette O Brien (Make up artist), Tricia O Sullivan (Hair and Make up), Noreen (Travel Counsellors) and the Kerry Cake Company all taking home awards.

Then it came to “Wedding Photographer of the year” and guess what?   WE WON!

I really couldn’t believe it! We stopped entering awards a few years ago and we’re surprised to have even been nominated for this.

Then for our clients to vote in their masses and decide that we deserved it really blew me away.

Thank you again, we are truly grateful. We had such a great night dancing to the fantastic Pat Fitz band and celebrating with our fellow suppliers.

The Kerry Wedding Industry has such a range of fantastic (and mad) suppliers, you would be crazy not to book them and support local!

2018 the year of growth! by TaraD

It is Sunday the 11th of Feb and I have sat down many a time to catch up on blog posts and update our site but it hasn’t happened yet! Today we should be working in adare but the weather has forced us to reschedule. So in between family fun I am sneaking off to do a quick post! 🙂

2018 has had us hitting the ground running! It has been such a manic year so far and the word that seems to sum it up for me is “Growth”.

Growth as a business:

Tara Donoghue photography is almost at our quota for 2019 and we are already booking for 2020! Thank you so much to all of you who want to collaborate with us on your amazing day!

Growth of our skillset and experience:

We were found by a fabulous L.A Director Phillip Briggs who invited us to be still and production photographers for the movie he was shooting here in Kerry. Phillip is a master of light and to work with him was an amazing honour.

For him to say that our work was “incredible” is even more surreal! This has been a really exciting project for us feeding our creativity in a completely different way and it has already begun opening lots of exciting doors! When you are casually discussing the Oscars, Cannes film festival and Hollywood actors for the next movie it all becomes quite unbelievable and so exciting to be on board!

Growth as a family:

Dáithí arrived in 2017 but our family has well and truly settled into life as a family of four!

He has fitted into the madness that is our life and with his laid back personality, he just sits and laughs at us all which is probably the best approach! 🙂

So as I continue to plan and work on our different areas of growth, I remind myself that none of it is possible without those around us who enable us to grow.

Our clients who trust in us, those who repeatedly recommend us, the friends and family who support us.

None of it would be possible without you all, so thank you!

On that note I can smell my Sunday dinner so I am off!

Have a fantastic week!

MAKE YOUR WEDDING POP! by TaraD

Since today is Popcorn Lovers Day, popcorn is such a popular loved snack, it is associated with fun times like birthday parties or trips to the cinema. Why not make it a fun part of your big day, whether you and your partner are movie fans or just want to add something quirky to your day, here are some ideas to include this delicious food at your wedding!!

Start your wedding with something different.

Instead of the usual biscuits and sandwiches for your wedding guests at the drinks reception, make it fun and special and have popcorn at the ready for your guests to enjoy! Popcorn and champagne tastes great together!!

Have it in cute little bags or paper cones that the guests can have.

Wedding favours

A really lovely simple idea for this is to get some empty jam jars and fill them with popcorn kernels, seal the jar and wrap a tag around the top saying ‘Thanks for making our day pop!’

Wedding cake

Who doesn’t love popcorn and chocolate?! Why not go for something different for you wedding and make it memorable with a unique cake! Show off your adventurous side with a salted caramel sponge and popcorn on top… delicious!!

Make it fun

Hire a popcorn making machine and add some carnival fun to your wedding, the smell alone will have everyone in good spirits!! Kids at the wedding will love it too.

Go poppers!!

Have a popcorn station set up for the late night snacks of all different types of popcorn, different flavors and colours,

everyone loves a midnight snack of popcorn!!

Tips for a winter wedding by TaraD

Wrap up!

Its winter so don’t be afraid to try and wrap up even if it is your wedding day! Try and wear a long wedding dress – one with long sleeves if you can!! Add a funky shawl or cardigan to give you an extra layer!

Look after your bridesmaids!!

Your bridesmaids need to be kept warm too!  You don’t have to have them dressed traditionally this time of year, cheap leather jackets in Penneys could be a very cool accessory for them on the day!

Don’t forget to bring an umbrella!

An umbrella this time of year is a definite must, try to invest in some colourful ones to add a splash of fun and colour to your wedding pictures!

Be on time!

With Christmas shoppers on the hunt, to bad weather, the likelihood is the traffic is going to be heavy this time of year!

Decorations

Take advantage of the Christmas feeling and check out if your hotel will have Christmas decorations in you function room!

Look after your wedding gang when outdoors for pictures!

A great idea could be to buy a few hand warmers, that could be put into jacket or pants pockets to keep your hands!

Don’t forget to pack wellies just in case, there is nothing worse than getting your heels stuck in mud!! 😀

My wedding day adventures by TaraD

Looking through our wedding pictures and seeing how much love and magic was captured has left me with the same butterflies that I had on the day all over again!!

From the madness the morning of with everyone making sure they hadn’t forgotten anything to calmness at the end of the night realising that we had just pulled off the most amazing day and night of our lives was mind blowing!

Looking at the wedding pictures, my wedding ring or of course my wife any bit of stress involved in the lead up to the wedding was so minor in comparison to this feeling of love.

The love we felt from our friends, our parents, our brothers and sisters and even our photographers is a feeling that we will never forget.

It’s the little things on the day that you don’t plan that are the ones you never forget, the wind leaving the house teasing to mess up my hair or lift up my dress to show off my carefully selected knickers! The breath taking feeling of seeing my bride looking so beautiful waiting for me in the registry office with a cheeky smile and a look on her face of here we go!!!

The moment when our nephew starts crying with happiness doing his reading. The moment our sisters signed their names to our marriage cert. The hug my mother in law gave me, that loved filled hug and emotion filled congratulations. The moment of surprise when I heard my wife’s voice singing through the speakers of the registry office, playing just after we said I do.

The rain that poured down after the ceremony that had us all laughing running to the cars!! The cries during the speeches, the fun when taking the photos.

The feeling of doing our first dance to claps and cheers, the feeling of going to bed married. I would do it all over again but looking at the pictures will do for now!
