Jewel Day! by TaraD

We all admire certain jewels or want a specific style for a wedding or engagement ring,

check out the meaning of some of these beautiful jewels.

Garnet

Garnet stone is beautifully eye catching and has many meanings. This stone is extremely appropriate

for engagement rings as it symbolises fire, passion, and love.

The Garnet stone is also associated with life and business, popularity with friends, high energy, and

fertility.

Diamond

Diamonds are most commonly known as being almost indestructible, symbolising eternity this is a

great choice for an engagement or wedding ring. Diamonds are also known for their eye catching

sparkle and brilliance thus symbolising love.

Topaz

It is believed that the gemstone Topaz can have a calming effect on emotions while also bringing

energy to the wearer when they need it if troublesome events occur.

Sapphire

Blue Sapphire is beautifully breath taking, it was believed by the Ancient Persians that the Earth was

mounted on a blue sapphire and that its colour was reflected in the sky. Sapphire captures so much

symbolising loyalty, faithfulness and trust, making it the perfect symbol for an engagement or a

wedding ring of a couples love.

Emerald

Emerald green has beautiful symbolisations attached to it, it has the concept of eternity as it is the

colour that constantly renews itself through generations. It is thought that when you give an emerald

you are showing humility, which is thought to be a good thing when starting a new life with somebody.

So make that ring extra special by thinking about the symbolism attached to it!

Happy shopping 

Wedding traditions, what will you be sticking to for your big day? by TaraD

Wedding rings

Wedding ring

Your wedding and engagement ring are worn on the fourth finger of the left hand, reason being that it was believed that a

vein running straight from your heart ended in this finger therefore connecting the ring from your love directly to your

heart.

Bridesmaid dresses

Matching bridesmaid dresses are actually meant to be good luck! This superstition comes from the Roman times, people

believed that evil spirts would attend the wedding to curse the wedding couple. So in order to trick the evil spirits,

bridesmaids had to wear the exact same dress as the bride to confuse the spirits and bring luck to the wedding! They must

have been very understanding brides!!:D

Veils

Veils were also worn in the Roman and Greek times as it was thought that this would protect the bride form evil spirits!

Wedding veil blowing in the wind.

Wedding cake

Ancient Rome again gives us the wedding cake tradition. While now we get to enjoy our favourite cake in the evening the

poor brides in those tomes had to endure a loaf of bread being broken over their head for fertility luck, I can’t imagine too

many brides today that would let their hair get ruined with crumbs!!

Tying the knot

Tying the knot isn’t just a catchy phrase, this is a phrase brought in from different cultures such as Celtic, Hindu and

Egypt where the hands of the wedding couple would be tied together to show their commitment to each other as a knot is

very hard to break once tied tight enough.

Over the threshold

Carrying your newly married partner over the threshold isn’t just for a great picture opportunity but tradition has it that

this protects again from evil spirits!

Honeymoon

Honeymoons weren’t always a treat for a newly married couple, ancient Norse couples went into hiding after the wedding

and a family member would bring them a cup of honey wine for 30 days — or one moon — which is how the term

“honeymoon” originated.

Ice Cream For Breakfast Day by TaraD

With today being ice cream for breakfast day , I thought it was a great opportunity to talk about ice cream at weddings!! Firstly some history! In the 1960’s Florence Rappaport came up with the idea to make ice cream for breakfast to keep her children entertained when a huge blizzard hit Rochester, New York. Every year her children kept up the tradition and now it is celebrated worldwide. So thank you Florence for giving us an excuse to have ice cream for breakfast!!

Whatever time of year you are getting married, ice cream can be a great addition to your day! Here are some ideas that will give your wedding a quirky twist!

Have something different!

Want to get a non traditional wedding cake?  Why not opt for an ice cream cake and give your guests something different! Try going for a 2 tier ice cream cake or mini ice cream cone inspired cake pops or even Baked Alaska!

Something to keep your guests entertained!

Allow your guests to make their own ice cream and hire an ice cream machine for your wedding reception! Make it a day everyone will never forget and the kids at the wedding will love it!!!

Get someone else to do it!

If you would prefer to have your guests relax and have a bit of fun why not hire a wedding cart and let them do the job for you! This is a great way to keep your guests from getting peckish and will get everyone up and moving around! Even a mix of ice cream and crepes instead of an evening buffet!

Beach themed wedding!

If you’re going for a beach themed wedding why not have ice cream keepsakes as wedding favours such as customised ice cream scoops! Have some fun signs hanging places saying phrases such as:

‘All you need is love and maybe a little ice cream’

‘Life is too short eat dessert first!’

‘Let us treat you to some ice cream for making our day complete!’

Fun fact: Research has shown that even just a spoonful of ice cream lights up the same pleasure centre in the brain as winning money or listening to your favourite music! So not only on your wedding day will it look good, taste good but it will also make everyone even happier on the day!! 😉

So go on get planning and don’t forget to have an ice cream while you do it!!! 😀

Happy ice cream day!!

Wedding favour TIPS by TaraD

Give it a personal touch!

Give thought to what your big day is about, how you and partner met, the place for instance or where ye got engaged

(Sand in a little bottle from the beach you got engaged at, with a tag saying’ take some of our paradise home with you’)

Match your wedding theme!

Keep all your ducks in row and stick to your wedding theme, having a sea themed wedding? Give your wedding guests a rubber duck with your wedding date on it!

Keep your guests in mind!

Think of your guests and what they would use. If you are getting married in winter why not treat them all to some cosy favours?

Present them uniquely!

Presentation is a chance to incorporate your wedding theme with the wedding favours, display them on a table somewhere in the room that will catch the guests eye, have the table decorated in such a way that it shows off your wedding theme or if you want a standalone piece have it loud and proud, it’s amazing what a few fairy lights and a bit of imagination can do!

Make it fun!

Funny props and disposable cameras on the table is a great way for people to interact and the kids will love it!!

Make your own invites

If you do want to post an invite there are cheap options for making your own invites if you don’t mind paying for the stamps! 😀 Take these beautiful invites from Tara and Daves wedding for example!! Step 2:

Use the hole puncher to make a hole at the top of the prepared tags.

Step 3:

Feed the twine through the hole to make a loop and tie.

Step 4:

Count the number of guests attending and screw in the amount of hooks required into the board or frame.
