A catch up with Liz and Mags from Finesse Bridalwear
Tell us a bit about yourselves and your company….
We opened Finesse in January 2000 in Listowel, Co. Kerry. We are sisters Liz & Mags Horgan. We work very well together & compliment each other very well in our business, both having our own qualities in different areas. There is a lot more to the business than just selling beautiful dresses so having both of us in the business really helps.
Our ethos from the beginning has been to provide a memorable experience to each and every bride that visits Finesse. 17 years down the line that is still very important to both of us.
What is your favourite part of the Job?
I would have to say its meeting people. We are in a privileged position because we are meeting Ladies at a very happy time in their lives. It is really nice to be a part of their special day. Even if a bride doesn’t find the dress of her dreams with us once she has enjoyed her experience in Finesse that’s the main thing.
We have a sign in the shop that says Enter as stranger, leave as friends and I can honestly say it often works out like that!
What should a bride consider when choosing her wedding dress?
The most important thing is to keep an open mind and try on all the different styles.
When you have the style that suits your body shape decided on then concentrate on the design you would like on it.
It is important to trust your assistant, remember these ladies are serving brides for years and if they know their job they will guide you in the right direction.
Be sure not to take too many people shopping with you as the more opinions you have the more confusing it can get.
Whats the biggest mistake you’ve seen couples make?
I would think it is trying to keep up with the “Joneses” You have to remember its your day so it should be your way! Don’t worry about what other couples are or aren’t doing for their wedding. Focus on your own day and whats important to you as a couple.
What tips or advice can you give to couples who are starting to plan their wedding attire?
I would advise couples to start looking well in advance, at least 1 year for the bride and 6 months for the groom.
It is advisable for the bride to choose her bridesmaid colour before the groom decides on his suits, as it may dictate what colour he chooses.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Don’t go to too many boutiques when you are looking for your dress because it really will confuse you. Two to Three boutiques would be enough as that will give you plenty of choice.
Try to enjoy your engagement and not get carried away too much because the time just flies and before you know it you will be celebrating your 1st Anniversary!
On that note…..Happy Planning from Liz & Mags .
